Lost, Found and Hand-me-Downs

Hi there! How was everyone's festivities? We were blessed with wonderful holiday and had some time off to spend with each other. It's tough going back to work after that kind of break, ya know?

I have a blast from my past to share this week with Boober as my model. She is still small enough to wear this as a dress and as she grows she can don it as a shirt. This is probably my favorite childhood dress and although some of the red has bled onto the collar and cuffs over the years it is hardly noticeable when it's on. This is also about the closest I have ever been to being a painter.
The buttons match the paint pallette...
...and the paintbrush has its 3D fibers still in tact.

I have other dresses to pass along to her and hopefully future grandchildren, but none as sweet as this little frock.

Cheers.

One of Our Traditions

Typically I would say I am very nontraditional. I just don't see the reason to do something again because you have done it at the same time the same way a thousand times before. On the same token I appreciate that other people are enamored in their cyclical events. I enjoy watching them, but I could take it or leave it. However, during Christmas traditional things seem to bubble up all over the place and I embrace them for whatever reason. Perhaps because it focuses my attention on reflection. It's a good time of year for that, right?

From what I understand our tradition is very common around this time of year. For me this is a continuation of a tradition my mother started with me and my brothers. That woman loves tradition. I think I love this tradition because she did when we were kids and I have continued giving a new ornament to each member of my little clan every year.

John's
...because my man loves a good Scotch.

Bud's
...because my little man knows his way around a good monster drawing.

Boober's
...because my little femme enjoys being a wild thing.

Mine's
...because Urban Outfitters did not know who they were dealing with when they gave Hubble bad info.

And there you have it. Four new additions to our tree. One tradition carried over and out. And to all a good night.

P.S. - I will be making everyone's ornament next year. I mean, you would think I would have been doing that all along. Mice and men, ya know?

Lost, Found or Hand-Me-Down

I promise this will be the last Christmas-y LFHMD post until next year. Try not to shove it all down your throat at once, ya know? I happen to be sharing ornaments again today, although this time they were lost and not hand-me-downs. They are also not originally ornaments, but I decided the tree is the best place to preserve these memories.
Meet Moo-Cow. He used to hang from Bud's baby gym and my drool-y little guy loved to chew on him. I stumbled upon Moo-Cow when I was doing my systematic household purge and he distracted me from there. A quick bath and strong hook was all it took for Buddy's friend from infancy to take his place on our tree.
You probably recall earlier this year I was reunited with some old gal pals of mine. It turns out I received a sign I would see them again when this little Sprite showed up at the end of the holiday season last year. I had every intention of giving my Sprite a home on my tree, but I forgot about him until I pulled the decorations out this year. I was delighted to see his colorful face when I opened the first box. Sprite is a friend of Rainbow Brite, see? I used to have all the different colored Sprites, but he is the only one who has gone the distance with me.

I think that may be one of the reasons the Christmas tree is my favorite part of this holiday. It's like old friends getting together. It's a story with little histories hung on the branches. It reminds me of where I have been and what I have done and how there is always room to grow.

Lost, Found and Hand - Me - Down

Let's ease on back into the saddle, shall we? I am now the proud owner of a handful of my Gram's ornaments from her holiday trees of years past. These have been around as long as I can remember and from what I know several of them were made by her daughters when they were youngsters. It was hard not to bring them all home.
This would be one of two handmade carousel ornaments I acquired. Eventually I will give one to each of my cheeky monkeys for their grown-up trees.
Typically the vintage aesthetic is not my thing, however this little Rudolph is one of the cutest things I have ever seen. I love him.

There was at least one other satin ball ornie I know I hung up, but when I got the camera out I couldn't find it on the tree. I also brought home some antique glass ornaments and passed them along to this lady to go with her collection. I hope she puts up some pics too. ;)

Add a link in the comments if you have something to share.
Ciao!

Almost There

Hello! It's been awhile. School is almost over for the fall semester and unless my math teacher is a complete *itch I should collect a 4.0. Huzzah! Sooooooooo, I should be around more in the coming weeks. I haven't taken any pics for a while. The Christmas gifts are all acquired. I am whipping up some crochet-y gifts for the holidays. The Catty Kitchen will host its annual cookie bake very soon and I am coming off of a week's vacation from the job. Life is good. Look for some Lost, Found and Hand-me-down action later this week. Mooches!

Photo of the Day - Not All There

I will probably be in and out this week because I am on vacation. I actually picked up my camera the other day, but didn't shoot a thing. It's been a while, but I'm not feeling it right now. Happy Turkey Day.
